The shelf has a collection trough running the length of the front of the shelf which serves the dual purpose.  When installed as a locker bottom, the trough will collect any water which may pool in the bottom of the shelf from melting snow on boots or other spills.  When installed as a locker shelf, the trough is ideal for containing pens, pencils, etc.

Over a 20-year period, tremendous savings are realized by investing in Duralife Lockers compared to investing in metal lockers. The above chart takes into account the initial costs of maintenance, dent and scratch repair, repainting, graffiti removal and replacement of damaged and corroded parts to create a cost of ownership model. Within 2 years, HDPE lockers are less expensive than metal lockers. In 20 years, the accumulated savings are substantial.

These HDPE plastic school lockers are actually more durable than metal ones because they’re impervious to dents. They’re even resistant to graffiti—the scourge of most lockers. A simple wipe or scrub will take care of the graffiti without having to repaint the entire locker. Duralife student lockers are also impermeable to moisture, preventing mold growth and unpleasant odors.
Other advocates of lockerless schools also cite reasons such as reducing noise by eliminating the clang of dozens of locker doors,[1] or creating a more appealing environment aesthetically. It has also been claimed that removing lockers provides good training for students by forcing them to be more efficient in managing their books, and taking the time to plan what books they will need, and carrying only those ones.
With the same standard features as the Traditional line, the Traditional Plus Collection is intended for more rugged applications. Available in single-, double- or triple-tier configurations, this collection features 14 gauge doors with 16 gauge full-height reinforcement channels, frame-secured 11 gauge frame hooks with protruding padlock hasps, and a maintenance-free, single-point latching system.
My daughters have been excited for months to get this new Babymouse book. The only downside to its arrival was discovering is that it's actually the beginning to a whole new crossover early chapter book style Babymouse and not a full graphic novel. It has occasional graphic novel style sections but is primarily words. One of my daughters was fine with the change. The other was heartbroken since she loves the original 20 books (and has read them all too many times to have kept track).
